There are two artists in my household. Alys Longley and myself. While working away on my course notes a voice wandered through the wall from the next room, a voice talking about iteration.
Iteration is an important concept in editing sound, images or scripts. The first idea is usually not the final idea, the 30th version is often not the final version. We start an idea and refine it over and over, show it to other people, work with other people, get feedback, refine and refine and refine the idea, with some ideas it is a process that lasts our entire lives.
I have known some directors, in this age of digital projection, to re-edit films between theatre screenings. The process of editing scenes for films, mixing sound and producing music entails iteration after iteration after iteration.
Alys was making a small video about iteration, a first iteration of a video for her students. I liked it so much I thought I would share it with you…
